Jetlag, drink!

    • Oktoberfest (don't wear nice shoes/clothes).
    • Hofbräuhaus / Andechser am Dom.
    • Food: currywurst (hot pork sausage + tomato), döner (Turkish rotating roast), spezi (Coke + Fanta), potato salad, schmaltz (greasy pork lard), spätzle (egg noodle), maultasche (meat stuffed pasta).

Sightseeing, hangover recovery.

Pick up car.
  1. Limo to Ingolstadt: what time?

  3. Audi factory and museum tours.

    • Ensure it has a loaner GPS and Warnwesten (safety vest for Austria).

Day 4 - 9/24

More Munich.

  1. Tour Munich.
  2. Leave by noon, unless Kehlsteinhaus is closed, then 2:30pm.
  3. To Berchtesgaden: 2.5hrs (scenic via 305B Alpenstrasse)
    • A8 to Salzburg (35 miles)
    • Exit 101 to A93 (12 miles)
    • Exit 59-Oberaudorf toward Niederaudorf/Erl/Ebbs/Niederndorfm
    • Right on B172 (5 miles)
    • Buy a 10 day Austrian vignette (toll sticker) at the Austria border.
    • Right on B305/Rathausplatz (use GPS from there)
  4. Dinner at Kehlsteinhaus (C).
    • Closed!?
    • Must arrive by 3pm, latest.

  1. Leave by noon or so.

Day 7 - 9/27

Venice.

  1. Leave super early.
  2. To Venice (B): 3.5hrs
    • Bring mosquito repellent.

Day 8 - 9/28

Check out the lakes.

  1. Leave super early.
  2. To Lenno (C): 4hrs
  3. Tour Lake Como.
    • Ferry to Bellagio, from the hotel or up the street at Griante (leaves more frequently, has free parking). (4-5hrs)
    • Walk 20min to Villa Balbianello (need appointment?). Stop at Trattoria S. Stefano, put in reservation, lunch there on way back. (2-3hrs)
    • For dinner, park at marina, take dingy to Comacina Island. ~€65/each, no credit cards.
  4. Sleep at Hotel Lenno.

Day 9 - 9/29

Alpine drive, glacier summit.

  1. Leave super early.
  2. To Andermatt (B): 2hrs
  3. To Interlaken (D): 1.5hrs (scenic via Grimsel Pass (C))
    • Buy Swiss vignette (toll sticker) at the Switzerland border.
  4. Train to Jungfraujoch (2hrs trains each way + 4hrs on top).
  5. To Lucerne (E): 1hr
  6. Sleep at Goldener Stern.

Day 10 - 9/30

Black forest, waterfall, fancy restaurant.

  1. Leave by 1-2pm.
  2. To Rheinfall (B): 1hr

    • Lunch in an old-fashioned Gasthaus: rustic Vesperplatte (snackplate), eg Speck (Black Forest ham) and Bauernbrot (farmer's bread).
    • Try Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest cake).
  4. Black Forest hiking?
    • Maps available from tourist office.
    • Obersimonswald, Gasthof-Hotel Engel to Zweribach Waterfall.
  5. Maybe:

Castle, Mosel river valley.

    • Sesselbahn chairlift to hilltop restaurant.
